Dorothy Mills wrote some wonderful history books in the 1920s for use by middle-school students, and Memoria Press is proud to bring these books back into publication—with added illustrations! Mills' books include quotes from great classical historians such as Herodotus and Cicero, making them a great preparation for reading these authors in high school. We also wrote study guides so that you can have a total classical history curriculum in the middle school years. Our study guides contain reading notes, vocabulary, comprehension questions, enrichment activities, maps, and tests.

In this book, David Bentley Hart, a widely revered Christian scholar, gives a scholarly but readable portrait of the Christian Church from its origins in Judaism to the "house churches" in contemporary China. This is a great overview of the history of the church that is perfect for study before delving into the more difficult church historians such as Josephus and Eusebius.

As your student progresses, the fifth stage in the Classical Composition program is Common Topic. The set of exercises in Common Topic are more difficult to categorize by modern composition theory, but would likely fall under the descriptive essay. The students are learning how to amplify evil attributes. They will use all of the previous skills learned in the exercises—narrative, expository, and argumentative—but must now apply those skills in a more creative and natural way than the previous stages. The Common Topic exercises look more like an “essay.”
Our customers are familiar with the comprehensive and well-written historical texts of Dorothy Mills. Now Memoria Press is making available her excellent text on the Renaissance and Reformation. There are, of course, strong opinions about some aspects of this crucial period of modern history, but history itself is and should be an objective account of what happened, not an editorial on what happened, and Mills succeeds marvelously in giving readers a neutral ground on which to base their understanding of the history of this exciting time.
