Henle is the best advanced Latin program, hands down, and this study guide only makes it better.  Cheryl Lowe has combined her years of experience with Henle into these wonderful study guides and lesson plans that no Henle teacher should be without.

When we set the price for these study guides, they were originally intended as short supplements. However, Cheryl Lowe and Martin Cothran added to and improved them until each has grown to about 70 pages with detailed explanation on how to successfully teach Henle as well as the Lesson Plans for the units covered.

The first guide covers the first two units (approximately the first 100 pages) and should take about 1 year to complete. As a bonus, it includes a recreated key for Units I & II.

As Mrs. Lowe put it, "This study guide is worth every penny."

Henle I is now available in the Online Classical Academy

Henle Latin Study Guide and Lesson Plan For Units III-V
A continuation of Cheryl's Latin guide, written in the same format by Martin Cothran. The second guide covers units III-V and should be used for another year. It does not include a recreated key.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • How much of Henle I do these guides cover?
    • There are two guides available, the guide for Units I & II and the guide for Units III-V.
    • Typically, students spend around a year on Units I & II and another year on Units III-V of the first year Henle book. This may seem slow but Henle was written when everyone took Latin from the day they entered grammar school. By the time they reached Henle Latin, they were well prepared and had very experienced Latin teachers. It is understandable that they moved a little quicker than most students do today.
  • For what ages should I use Henle?
    • Henle may be started at any age after your students have completed Latina Christiana II.
    • You should consider Henle Latin as your first Latin course if your students are in high school (depending on your experience teaching Latin). If you are unsure, it is a good idea to start with Latina Christiana I,and if you move through it very quickly, you may consider skipping Latina Christiana II and going straight into Henle.

"My daughter and I just started using the Henle books and your lesson plan for them. I have to say the whole program is wonderful! Thank you so much for making this subject attainable for us. I would never venture out and try any of the other programs (Wheelock, etc.) because I didn't know where to start. With your program, everything is spelled out for us and I love it."

"I received your new guide today and was quite impressed and grateful to get it. With four children doing Latin, two of them going into Henle, it is helpful having lesson plans laid out, already including the drills. I recently purchased the syllabus, but when the study guide came out with the lesson plans, I immediately ordered it. The syllabus would have been helpful, but I needed something more concrete. Your study guide has fulfilled this need along with more incentive for me to work through Henle personally. Thank you for all of your time and effort. Prayerfully, more Henle guides will be coming out in the future."

"I just wanted to thank you so much for publishing the Henle study guide.  I have been homeschooling since January of 1983 and have purchased enough Latin curriculum to supply a small parochial school, yet until this year we have never successfully studied Latin. When I discovered Memoria Press, I decided to give the subject one last try, and my daughter and I are now eleven weeks into the best experience we've ever had with Latin. We're learning together and enjoying it thoroughly... Thank you, thank you, thank you for such a wonderful tool."

"We are using the Henle Latin and are very pleased with it. It is easy to use and very straightforward. We had started with the LRTEG - I had no Latin background. I learned more in fifteen minutes reading Henle than in months struggling over the other. My daughter, for whom this really matters, is very happy with the Henle as well. She did not have much background going into it, yet she is having success. It is challenging and she likes that. And the challenge is not with struggling to understand what the author is trying to say, but with the material itself."
D. S., Vegsource Latin Message Board

"I have thoroughly enjoyed studying Henle Latin this year with my fifth grader! I think our success has largely been due to Cheryl Lowe's Study Guide. This should take us through this school year.... I loved the format of daily lessons."
K. H., Ohio

I tried to do Wheelock, but frankly it just overwhelmed me.  I am now doing Henle (with Cheryl's outline) and am finding it much more doable. For what it's worth...
