Product Description

American History Read-Aloud Edition
The American History Read-Aloud Edition is framed by biographical readings in American history. These readings will work on lengthening attention spans and sparking conversation as students explore the lives of famous Americans through longer, extended readings. With this version, prepare to spend considerable time with each book for the week. Some may want to read the entire book ahead of the lessons. The American history edition is recommended for older students who need more advanced content, who would benefit from an entire course in history, and who can sustain attention with lengthy readings.
If you are purchasing the full Simply Classical Level 3 package, you will need only the Simply Classical Level 3 American History Read-Aloud Set. All lesson plans will be included in your package.
If you are not purchasing the entire Simply Classical Level 3 Curriculum Package, you will need these items:
Bible Story Edition
The Bible Story Edition is formed by brief lessons based on stories from Holy Scripture. We recommend The Story Bible as a perfect match to the chosen stories in the student’s Simply Classical Writing lessons, or you may choose your own favorite. The Bible edition takes less time to teach because story selections are shorter. The Bible version may be preferable with any student for whom teaching time is short or Christian studies are preferred over American history.
If you are purchasing the full Simply Classical Level 3 package, everything will be included in your package. If you are not purchasing the full package, you will need these items for the Bible Story Edition:

Why Teach Writing

“What should I write? I don’t know what to say.” The so-called progressive approach leaves beginning writers ill-prepared for the art of writing. The Simply Classical Writing: Step-by-Step series combines copybook, grammar rules, and composition into one carefully-sequenced series of explicit instruction. Color-coding within each lesson provides multi-sensory encounters with capitalizing, punctuating, and editing. Sentences link to beautiful stories and engaging non-fiction. Be prepared to work! Students will receive necessary tools and practice for acquiring early writing competence with confidence.

The Bible version may be preferable with any student for whom teaching time is short or Christian studies are preferred over American history. The American history version requires extended mental stamina to listen to the read-alouds, but the Bible edition accomplishes the goals of composition in grammar with shorter reading selections each week. This provides an excellent alternative to the American history version. In the Bible edition, we improve biblical literacy while working on the same topics: sentences vs sentence fragments; declarative, interrogative and exclamatory sentences; adjectives, adverbs, nouns, pronouns, verbs; synonyms, antonyms; story synopses; main ideas; verb tenses, and much more. By the end of the 34 weeks, students write their own paragraphs related to a biblical theme.

Look at the samples above to see the full Table of Contents for each edition. We recommend choosing only one edition, as the assignments are incremental, but rigorous.
Regardless of the edition you choose, remember that spelling counts in a classical approach! We want students to see correctly spelled words in their own writing, so please assist students with spelling wherever needed. We look forward to seeing samples of your student’s independent writing as you traverse through the series!
