Ike Dishue –
Books D and E are a great way to reinforce grammar concepts as your child begins reading! We had to work at finding ways to make it fun, and there could be some improvements to help the child actually read the words, such as matching the word they just created to a small picture that they can color when completed. We also skip over some of the assessments and such and believe they move too slowly with too much boring “busy” work. Really, these two books could cut a lot of extra stuff and just do two or three fill-in-the-missing-letters pages for each pair. These actual worksheets that teach sound combos like “th” and “wh” and “oa” etc. are excellent! A couple of the words are a bit obscure for early readers but just a couple. Overall, I use these around preschool/kindergarten age and they have really helped with confidence and accuracy when we move to a “real” book!
