In First Start Reading Book A, we have our students spend time covering their short vowels. Whether through tracing, drawing, or even rhyming, our students will not only solidify what they are learning, but they will also have fun doing so!

In First Start Reading Book B, we have our students continue to work on learning the short vowels which began in First Start Reading Book A. Students will solidify short vowels in their mind by completing various assignments such as tracing, drawing, and writing.

In  First Start Reading Book D, we have our students move on to working on long vowels, silent e, and consonant blends. As the students work through this book, they will complete various exercises such as drawing illustrations, matching, coloring, and more!

Kindergarten Phonics Supplemental Workbook Sample

The Kindergarten Phonics Supplemental Workbook will help your student retain what they learn as they complete their phonics education! Designed to work in conjunction with our award-winning First Start Reading (FSR) program, this workbook promotes the recall of phonetic concepts already taught through the FSR program. It contains four activity pages for each consonant, short and long vowel, consonant team, and blend.

Manuscript Practice Sheets Sample

Manuscript Practice Sheets provides the extra practice students need in order to master manuscript printing while also reinforcing their phonics and reading. Each lesson is a two-page spread for students to practice the letter they are working on in First Start Reading as well as simple words and sentences based on the phonetic concepts being studied. The words being copied become more difficult as students progress in reading skill.

The Animal Alphabet Coloring Book helps students learn their alphabet while they color animals from A-Z. A great supplement for any phonics program, this fun and informative coloring book will solidify student's mastery of their letters as they associate them with the wild animals they get to color themselves.

Fine motor skills are critical for primary students to master. We have paired this Cut & Paste Book with our kindergarten phonics and reading program so that students can practice their scissors skills, using glue, and letter tracing while working on mastery of beginning sounds. The pages are in the same order that students study the  alphabet in First Start Reading, with additional pages for the h-consonant teams of sh, th, ch, and wh as they are introduced.

The Rod & Staff Grade 1 Math Student Book (Part 1) uses a mastery approach when teaching mathematics. This means that the student will spend a significant amount of time on one particular skill, such as addition or subtraction, in order to master said skill before moving on.

Student Drills Sample

Our goal for math in the primary grades is the mastery of basic facts. One of the most effective ways to help students achieve mastery is simply to practice. With daily timed drills, Memoria Math Challenge is designed to give students that math practice and also to help the teacher measure students' immediate recall. We start with  addition, subtraction, and number dictation in kindergarten, and ramp up to 200 daily problems by the end of first grade. If students are able to master their math facts in the primary years, they can devote more time to complex math operations in grammar school and upper school.

Memoria Math Challenge: Level A focuses on writing numbers, counting, and addition and subtraction facts up to seven and is organized in an easy-to-use loose leaf format.

Our primary copybooks teach penmanship, basic grammar, spelling, literature, accuracy, attention to detail, and memory—all through the simple skill of copying. We have selected Scripture from the King James Bible (chosen for its poetic verse) and classic children’s poems, such as those by Robert Louis Stevenson, which describe the world in charming detail. Composition & Sketchbook I Sample

Our Composition & Sketchbooks allow each student to write and illustrate compositions. These books are a great resource for all subjects and become a journal of your child's work for each year.

Composition & Sketchbook I  - This font is ruled with a middle dashed line, and each page is divided in half so that students draw on the top half of the page and write on the bottom half, so 4-5-year-old students aren't overwhelmed by a 2-page spread.

Reading is a subject that should continue through the summer to avoid regression. These new summer reading journals are the perfect way to encourage young children to continue working on reading fluency as well as exposing them to good literature. The font size gets smaller for each journal and each page is divided in half for drawing and writing small summaries. 100 Days of Summer Reading: Book One for kindergarten has the unique goal of reading a book a day for 100 days!

Morning Work Sample

Kindergarten Morning Work is designed to practice quick recall of concepts already taught in the Kindergarten Curriculum. It purposefully does not introduce new  concepts, but allows young students to build confidence and gives teachers the opportunity to gauge mastery. Two days a week students will review penmanship, phonics, color  words, number awareness, and the manner of the week.

The goal of this workbook is to solidify the letter and number skills that students learned in kindergarten during the summer before first grade, so that they enter first grade without gaps in mastery. Summer Manuscript is arranged in lessons to be completed three times a week during the summer. Each single-page spread has a letter or number review and sentence copy practice. Each worksheet should take about ten minutes to complete.
