This Jr. Curriculum Manual is great for me but also really helpful for the flow of the day for my 2 kiddos, ages 3 and 5. The curricula itself has lots of reading and questions to get little ones to think and speak freely and comfortably, so it’s important to have a well planned schedule to get the day moving with them. I didn’t know much about critical thinking for children prior to MP but I see the light bulbs going off left and right with this curriculum and I couldn’t be happier. This manual offers a nice flow that resembles a traditional school setting but not one that’s overwhelming. I like that we refer back to a lot of the same books and that absolutely everything you are going to need is broken down in the beginning of the manual or included at the back of the manual via the appendix. If you don’t purchase the books to read immediately, you can check the schedule listed in the appendix to see what is coming up. This gives time if you need to order a copy of a book or hunt one down at your local library.
I would recommend rereading the manual a few times to really understand how to teach and why you are teaching in this way. While having everything in one place is helpful, the back and fourth between the front instructions and back pages, is a little tedious in the beginning. I found having everything organized before the beginning of the new week is helpful and there is less back and fourth with all pages reviewed, copied and organized accordingly, prior to use. If you’re not able to make that time, the use of sticky notes are helpful when going between the front and back of the manual. This is our first year with MP and home schooling our children. This manual really takes a lot of the guess work our of how I’m supposed to teach and what I’m supposed to teach and that’s pretty much what I need during this season. Open up the weekly schedule and just follow it. I stack all my books in order of my manual and just read away with the kids. It’s very easy and we usually finish our day earlier than the schedule expects us to.
