2009-2010 Courses:

Informal Fallacies

Description: A study of informal logical fallacies. Students will study the nature and scope of logic, the logical use of language, and fallacies of ambiguity, presumption, and relevance. This course is an excellent complement to formal logic (Traditional Logic I and II), and can be seen as an extension of a student's study of material logic.A one-semester course.
Suggested Age: Grades 8 and up.
Required Course Texts: With Good Reason, 6th Edition, by Morris Engel.
Instructor: Mr. Piland
Chat Time: Tuesday, 3:00 p.m. EST
High School Credit Hours: Full semester credit.
Format: This class will be a combination of audio/video and text chatting.
Special Note: There are no pre-requisites in logic to take this course. Generally speaking, students usually take Logic I and Logic II before taking this course, but not having taken Logic I would pose no difficulty. For example if a student were taking Logic II simultaneously the student would not find Informal Logic Fallacies any more difficult.
