    Why study Latin?

There are several reasons to study Latin. First, Latin provides a solid foundation for education that English alone cannot, and Latin teaches English better than English teaches English. Latin is regular and can be observed with a more objective eye--something that is difficult to do with our native English. Latin is systematic, rigorous, and analytic, and clearly superior to other languages in this regard, while English is often lax and irregular. Often Latin can convey in five words what it takes ten words to say in English. Our stance is that education is about training the mind, not training for a job, although by studying Latin there are many transferrable skills. The mental discipline Latin instills in students also make it the ideal foreign language to study. And, as if this weren't enough, Latin is the ideal tool for the transmission of cultural literacy. Latin is the mother tongue of Western civilization, a language that incorporated the best ideas of the ancient Greeks.

    Why study Latin online?

Two reasons, motivation, and for the sheer fun of it. Motitvation...The United States Army doesn’t produce a home-study course for boot camp because there’s just something about that Drill Sergeant that helps recruites perform with excellence. Latin, like boot camp, can be a difficult journey, and it’s perferable to have a guide. Online students are driven through quizzes, deadlines, and their very
own Latin Drill Instructor, not merely to learn, but to master the subject. But far more motivating than
this is none other than the unquantifiable, esprit decore. Simple joy, afterall, is the reason humans do most things. The learning community that our Online Latin courses offer harnesses all the fun of group accomplishment, to the heavy load of motivating your student to learn Latin, which makes Online Latin with Memoria Press delightful for the student and parent alike.
