Description:
The first semester of a two-semester course covering Algebra
2 by Abeka Book. This course continues the study of algebra
and is for students who have successfully completed Algebra
1. In this course, students will use their reasoning
ability to logically solve problems dealing with the axioms,
rules, and principles of algebra.
Suggested Age: Grades 10 and up
Required Course Texts and Materials: The required
textbooks (not included in price of course) are available
at Abeka Book (www.abeka.com) and are listed with their
respective code number. These include:
1.) Algebra 2, Code Number: 82406, $26.25;
2.) Algebra 2 Solution Key, Code Number: 86193, $47.00;
3.) Algebra 2 Test and Quiz Book, Code Number: 86207, $11.25.
4.) Students are required to use an Iogear Digital Scribe
Pen with USB Receiver (www.iogear.com).
5.) Scientific calculator; the TI-84
Plus Silver Edition is recommended. (This is the calculator used by the instructor,
and will be the only one the instructor will be able to
help the student if he/she needs help operating his/her
calculator.)
6.) In addition, the student will be required to scan their
unit tests and all scratch paper. These will then be saved
as .pdf or .jpeg files and uploaded using the provided link
on the class page. (Tests may not be faxed or emailed to
the instructor.)
Content Covered: Course will begin
with a short review of Algebra 1 concepts, including order
of operations, polynomials, literal equations and inequalities,
and algebraic representation of basic geometric figures.
The remainder of the school year will cover Algebra 2 concepts,
such as factoring of binomials and other equations; fractions;
rational expressions; equations in one variable; linear
equations; variations and dependence; systems of equations
and linear functions; powers and roots; exponents, radicals,
and imaginary numbers; quadratic equations and logarithms;
progressions; numerical trigonometry and solution of the
right triangle.
Grading: Students will be graded
by the following: class participation, on-line
quizzes, and tests which will need to be scanned or faxed
to the instructor for manual grading. (The online
activities labeled "homework questions" can be
attempted as many times as desired and are not included
in the course grade. These "homework questions"
activities are to be used to prepare for the online quizzes.)
The online quizzes can be attempted twice with only the
highest score being recorded. The tests will be graded
by the instructor.
Instructor: Mrs. Grant
Class Chat Time: Wed. 10:00-11:50 am EST
High School Course Credit: Students completing
