Description:
An English literature course designed to teach students
how to read and analyze literature by gaining a basic understanding
of plot, character, and setting. Basic analysis of poetry
is also included in this course. The first semester of a
two-semester course.
Recommended Age: Ideal for 9th -10th grade
but also appropriate for older students.
Content Covered: A representative sampling
of classic short stories and essays by great authors such
as Kipling, Hawthorne, Poe, Conan Doyle, Irving, Melville,
Forster, Twain, Joyce, Chekhov, James, Hemingway, and others.
Basic composition techniques for expository essays will
also be presented.
Course Material: Most of the material for
this course will be provided online. There will also be
a small amount of material sent to you electronically, or,
if you prefer, by mail, in which case it would be provided
for you at cost. Any material costs to the course are not
included in the course price.

High School Course Credit: Full semester
high school credit. Taking the fall and spring semester
courses (you should sign up for spring separately) would
constitute a full year credit.
