Tanya,
I would like to have your opinion on which program to use. I used Prima Latina last year as our "introductory year" to latin. It was way too easy for my boys. They are now in 4th and 6th grade. I know articles from the MP website suggest that we take LCI then proceed into First Form. However, I am not sure that is the best path for us. Both of my sons excelled at Prima and really enjoyed learning latin but like I said it was just too easy for them. Also, my oldest son has a strong "distaste" for Leigh Lowe's pronunciation. He often gets distracted by her accent rather than listening to the lessons. I think I read that Glen Moore presents the info on the First Form DVD's and is receiving rave reviews. I wanted to give you a little background first, because I know some families only use Latin as a supplement or extra activity. However, that is not the case in our family. Latin is a very important subject that we dedicate a lot of time to learning every day of the week. Both of my boys asked at the end of Prima if they were going to be able to move into harder latin now. With that said, would I be able to skip LC I and jump right into First Form without any gaps? I would really appreciate your input. I was going to email you directly, but I wasn't sure if that was appropriate and I also thought someone else may have the same question. Thanks, Tammy |

Tammy,
I'm sorry for the delayed response to this post. I'm not getting all of these posts in my email for some reason, so I've just found bunches of them! Your children can absolutely jump from Prima to First Form. LC1 and FF both start at the beginning. The major difference you will see is in the amount of written work required. LC1 has 1 page of exercises per lesson, but FF has 4-5 pages per lesson. This is going to give your children more opportunity for reinforcement and mastery, which is a good thing since you are making Latin a priority. Regards, Tanya |
