My dd (12) has completed level 2 of "Latin's Not So Tough" which was mostly vocabulary. While she enjoyed working independently in this program, we found the information in their level 3 program to have serious inconsistencies (even I was confused as an adult who had 2 years of high school Latin!). After third of the book, we stopped using it. I'd like to switch her to a Memoria Press Latin program, but am unsure of which level to put her in (LC1, LC2 or 1st Form). Language based areas are my dd's academic strength. However, the goal I have for her is use a level where she can work mostly independently. I want to provide her with a little challenge, but not so much that she becomes frustrated. Any suggestions?
Another question I have about Memoria is if the DVD's are a necessary part of the program? |

Hello.
Your daughter would fit beautifully into First Form Latin. She is at the perfect age, and though it is a serious Latin grammar program, it does begin at the beginning. So it will reinforce what she knows, while introducing new material at a good pace. First Form introduces one new grammar form a week, gives the student 4-5 pages of exercises using that grammar form, and then has a weekly quiz to test the student's grasp of the material. It is very structured, not overwhelming, but moves along at a pace that accomplishes a lot in a year. The dvds are not necessary to the program, especially since you have a background in Latin. The teacher guide has scripted lessons for the teacher, and I don't think you would have any trouble with teaching this program. But, if you buy it and then realize you would like the dvds, just let us know and we'll still give you the set price. Let me know if you have any further Latin questions, or questions about any of the rest of our curriculum. I'll be glad to help you! Tanya Charlton |

Thanks Tanya! Another question: what levels of Memoria could be considered a high school level program (this is for planning purposes)?

Completion of First Form earns 1 high school credit. Each Form thereafter will also be worth 1 credit. Latina Christiana I is 1/2 a high school credit.
