Default Where to begin Latin

I'm a homeschooling mom trying to figure out which Latin program to begin. My children will be in the 7th, 5th, 3rd and K. I was really focusing on the 7th and 5th grader. I have no Latin background at all. In your opinion, should I use Latina Christiana I or First Form? Thanks!

Hello.

You know, either Latin program will work for you at this point, but let me explain the differences between the programs, and it may be clear to you which would work best for your family.

First Form is going to move more quickly than Latina Christiana I. It actually replaces the years of Latina I and Latina II with one year of work. First Form also has more written work (4-5 pages per lesson).

The advantage to doing LCI first is that First Form would then be a good review of that material, moving you at a slower pace, which may suit your family better. Also, if you do LCI, it would be appropriate for your 3rd grader to join in as well. First Form would probably be too hard for a 3rd grader, but LCI is not.

If you only had a 7th grader, I would definitely lean toward First Form, but there are so many advantages to letting your children do a Latin program together. So if you feel your 5th grader needs a slower pace, I'd go with LCI.

And there will be DVDs for both programs, so I don't think you would have trouble with either.

I hope this is helpful. If you have any more questions, I'll be glad to help you.

Regards,

Tanya
