After reading LCC, I am really excited about streamlining for our family. We have six kids - 8th grade down to 1st grade. My question is about handwriting. If I use Copybook 1 for my 1st, 2nd, and 4th grader, will this suffice for handwriting? Do the Copybooks get progressively more difficult? And if so, is should I have my kids in different Copybooks? We have used Getty-Dubay handwriting in the past, but it seems that to use this with the copybooks would be overkill. Thoughts? TIA!

Cindy--
If your kids know the GD writing style, then doing the MP copybooks may confuse them, because it uses a different style. I like the copybooks and it does suffice for handwriting. It also suffices for recitation and writing instruction, if you want it to. There is a lesson plan to follow at the beginning of the book. They do get progressively more difficult with each book but the differences are subtle. For 1st and 2nd grade, if you decide to use the MP books, you would probably want to use copybooks II (for 1st) and III (for 2nd). If you want to teach them a whole other style, begin with book I for both of them. If you want to keep to the GD style, I would buy a composition book with appropriate line spacing for their skill level and give them poetry or famous quotes to copy and then memorize or something like that. MP does have a composition and sketchbook that is completely blank, so you could use them with the GD style and with beginning cursive instruction. The 4th grader is beyond the MP books. There are no cursive copybooks, yet, and the printing books are too elementary for that level. HTH. Cheri |
