If one wanted a 1 to 1.5 year crash course for 6,7,8th grade what would it consist of? Would you do Famous Men or the Dorothy Mills books and what order? Which literature guides? What about Christian Studies, Christian Studies IV and/or Ancient World (Mills)?

I would do the Mill's Books in order of Civilization: Ancient World (use as history, not Christian Studies), Greece, Rome, and Middle Ages.
Depending on time, I would probably choose to do these guides orally but require written reviews, tests, and any enrichments as I had time. This would of course depend on my child's ability. If Mill's was too challenging, I would use the Famous Men series instead in the same manner as above. I would also try to squish in Guerber's US History course the same as above. It could be done concurrently. History would be daily. IF you just want them to get the picture, you could not do the guides but just require the child to read each chapter and write a paragraph summarizing what was in it. I would choose 1 book from the 6th grade Lit list based on interest just to get their feet wet. I would then include The Iliad and the Odyssey and 1 other title from the 7th grade Lit list based on interest. I would spend the rest of my time on the 8th grade list. I would consider doing the 6th and 7th grade books as above for history, if my time was tight daily. I would go through the Christian Studies IV book to make sure my kids had a good overview of the Bible. I would try to do this alongside Mill's Ancient World as it gives historical context for Biblical history. I almost did this for my older two. HTH!
