Question Is anyone using 3rd grade astronomy?

I just received my 3rd grade lesson plans today, but I didn't order the astronomy set because I already had another science book I was planning to use instead. Now I'm considering getting the MP astronomy set, but I would love to hear what other people who have used it think of it.

Thanks,
Sue

We used the MP astronomy for the last 9 weeks of school for my 3rd and 5th grader. I think you would like it because it goes along with all the mythology in 3rd. I really like the way the books have the children continually practice to memorize the stars and constellations. We supplemented with books from the library, some Bill Nye science guy video and this awesome app called Night Sky. The app shows the current constellations in the sky as you point it. VERY cool! We checked out a lot of the books from the children's department because the pictures were great (very helpful to visualize) and the stories along with them are short. The Bill Nye video was for high school. We are planning on going to the planetarium for a show. The girls are also writing their own myth where it will also become a constellation.

I am considering adding in alongside Apologia's Elementary book Astronomy. Has anyone else done this? I was thinking of using it as a read aloud only.

We've just started MP Astronomy, and are truly enjoying it. MP's program being a worktext, you may very well be able to use Apologia as a read-aloud alongside MP. (I haven't seen Apologia's Astronomy.)
