Hi! I am very interested in using the MP curriculum packages with my daughters for the next school year, when they will be in first and third grades. My older daughter has not learned cursive, and has had no Latin. I was wondering if I should cover the first or second New American book with her this summer before beginning the third book, and also if she needs some introductory work with Latin before starting the third grade recommendations.
Thanks for any help! |

Hi!
If it were me, I would have my child go through at least NAC 1 before starting 3rd grade if it is the style you decide to use. This book gives the most in depth instruction on letter formation. As for Latin, Latina Christina is fine for beginners with no Latin background so I would not worry about pushing through Prima over the summer. HTH!

Hello.
If you want to simplify your life, you could let both children do NAC1 together, and if your 1st grader is reading well, they could also do Prima Latina together next year. Just a thought. We will send you lesson plans for Latin if you choose to do a different program than the one in the particular lesson plans you buy. Regards, Tanya |

So you mean have them progress through cursive and Latin at the same level? I guess they are at the same level! Very interesting idea. I'm all for simplifying my life, especially with two little brothers running around
I'll have to give this some more thought!

That's what I mean. It's a possibility, but only if you feel your 1st grader is ready for Latin. If you have a struggling reader, you would be better off to wait on Latin and concentrate on reading.

Hi! Just bumping this up to ask if a read-aloud list for 3rd grade was ever finalized.

Yes! I'll attach it here. We have a list of novels to read through the year, and we have a separate list of picture books that we use in the classroom throughout the year that tie to some things studied in the 3rd grade. We will sell both sets separately. The novels set is $150 and the picture books set is $300.
I'm attaching the list here. The numbers under the 'Week' column represent the weeks in our curriculum guide that will be tied to each book. Regards, Tanya |
