Bumping this up to see if maybe I missed the read-aloud list for 3rd and up.

Hello.

You didn't miss it. We are still tweaking it, but I did see some of our teachers this morning, and they are very close to a final list!

We have been having a debate in our office about whether to include The Magician's Nephew since the students read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in 4th grade. Some think LWW should always be the students' intro. to Narnia, and others think it should be The Magician's Nephew since it is a prequel. That is one of the hold-ups. What do you think?

Tanya

Well I do look very forward to seeing what your teachers have selected!
We have done it both ways at our house. With my son (dd was an wee one) we read LWW aloud and it was one of my dearest memories thus far in our home school . We followed that with The Magician's Nephew as a read aloud with both son and daughter and then LWW again. My son then went on and read the rest of the Chronicles on his own. My daughter (3rd grade) is looking very forward to reading LWW on her own ( we are waiting as we are following MP recs). As far as order goes...the jury is still out here as well!!!
My son has said he was happy to have gotten to MN early as it helped with his understanding. My daughter said she wishes she didn't know the details "of how" from MN as it takes some of the mystery away from the story...................so I guess there is no wrong way to do it!

But if I were to submit my opinion~I think LWW is THE introduction to series...there is just nothing like it.

Okay. That's 2-to-1 in your family in favor of LWW. Maybe others will weigh in and we can add the votes to those in our office and make a decision.

Just in case you haven't reached a Narnia decision yet, I'll throw in my 2 cents:

you must enter Narnia through the wardrobe first.

I concur. Narnia is best through LWW first. We found MN a bit confusing, but it made more sense AFTER reading LWW.

I did not read Magician's Nephew until I was an adult. Discovering just how the lamppost ended up out in the wood was so much fun.

I began the series with LWW when I read them again with my oldest and plan to do the same with my little ones.
