I recently ordered the 5th grade curriculum package. As I was looking through the Memoria Press catalog, I saw a photo of a red Geography Book in the group of books shown for 5th grade. All I have is a student workbook and a matching teacher's book. As I was browsing through the teacher's guide, I have already found some errors. Is this common? What does Memoria Press do when they are notified of errors? Do they send out updates?
Thanks, J. A. |

What you have is a beta version. That course is being rewritten this summer. All you have to do is call the office and ask for a final/updated version. They can tell you when it will be ready and will ship it out to you for free.

I wish Memoria had informed me when I ordered that I was ordering Beta versions. I would have waited until the end of summer to order. Do you know if there are any more books in the 5th Grade curriculum that are being updated at this time? Is it up to me to find this out and then ask Memoria for an update? How do you find these things out?

You can ask here. I am not aware of any others. Any books with comb bindings are beta versions. I am not sure when you bought but I think the decision to rewrite/revise the course was rather recent. MP is a good company. I am sure they did not intend to mislead you in any way.

Oh, no. I totally don't think I was purposely mislead. I just wish when I talked with the man in their office about a month ago, he had let me know that there were some changes coming up with the curriculum. I had a few questions when I received my order and they were very quick to get back with me and answered my questions with no problems. I just wish that my initial conversation with the order person had been more informative. The lady that I dealt with later was very, very helpful. No problems there at all. I just don't understand this "Beta" thing but I think I am getting it now. Thanks for your help.

I am sorry if one of our representatives did not make it very clear that some of our books are beta and what that implies. Your feedback helps us improve!
We release books in beta format because we know that homeschoolers do not have the option to wait to implement a curriculum for "next year's fifth graders". Many of our customers would prefer to use a book that is well thought out but has not been fully finished, so we happily provide everything we have while we work on perfecting it. Your feedback on errors you may find are very helpful to us! As for other books in the 5th grade curriculum that are beta, yes, the MP science guides (What's that Bird?, Exploring the History of Medicine) are still beta as well as the "Classical Composition: Narrative stage". The composition student and teacher books should be out of beta within a couple weeks. The geography books should be done by the end of summer (map-drawing takes a long time!). Paul

I also ordered the Geography and Insects texts, not realizing they were in Beta format. I used them for a few lessons last fall, and then my son was put into private school for the year. He will be back home now, and I would like to pick up where we left off for those subjects. Do I need to re-order to get the non-Beta version?

Since you bought the beta versions, we will replace those with the final copies at no cost. Just call us at 877-862-1097 and ask!
