Default Famous Men of Greece / Rome

Were these books based on Plutarch's Lives when they were written? I was going to have my son read some of the Lives this year and I thought I saw somewhere that might be the case. If so, then it might be helpful for him to read the FMG/FMR version as preparation before reading Plutarch's version of each one we do. I will probably select the Lives which have a study guide available on Ambleside, but any input here is appreciated.

Samantha,

This is the first I have heard that the Famous Men books were based on Plutarch. I feel like the authors probably used several different sources as research for their stories, but I'm not sure.

I do think that having students read an easier history before delving into the classics is a good idea. If they already know the stories, then the more difficult prose will not stump them.

Regards,

Tanya

Thanks, Tanya. I can't remember where I saw it but it was the first time I'd heard that too. I don't know if it was a reliable source, though, so I hoped you would know. But you're right, either way, it would be a good source for background.
