Hi, we are unable to locate "The Fox" by Gustav Klimt by Googling it. I just wanted to check if this is indeed the correct title and artist.
Thanks! Kathy |

The closest thing I could find was a painting by Klimt entitled "The Fable," which has a fox and cranes in the right third of the painting. But since there is a nude female in the middle of the painting, I am doubtful that this would be the correct selection. (Unless the first graders happen to be reading The Fox and the Crane that same week.) I even tried searching by "Der Fuchs," but this will cause too many hits about Ernst Fuchs, who was inspired by Klimt. Hopefully someone else will solve the riddle. I do think that Klimt's most well-known paintings are "The Kiss" and "The Tree of Life."

Well, I'm not sure what is going on here, but the one we are using in school is called Eluding the Fox by Bruno Liljefors. Liljefors also has one called The Foxes. Not sure if this was our original intention, but we've got something mixed up somewhere. Sorry about the confusion. I'll have to look back through our early drafts and see if I can figure it out. In the meantime, try using one of Liljefors' fox paintings. He is considered probably the most prominent wildlife painter at the turn of the 20th century, I believe.

Thanks, Tanya. We are using the 1st edition guide, copyright 2010, that I bought from you at the Memphis convention last spring, if that helps. We will look for the piece you mentioned instead!
Thanks again! Kathy |

Tagging on to this question, what about the "USS Constitution" painting listed in week 6? There's no author given and it's not italicized so I'm thinking any painting of the ship? I found multiple paintings when I googled but wasn't sure if there was a specific one that was more famous than the others?
Thanks! |

I think we just intended for students to see a picture of the actual ship. Obviously, when we do art cards we will have to choose a specific painting, but we haven't done that yet. Another summer project ...
