Hi,
I have a question about #6 & 7. #6 says: We were standing at the foot of the hill. The answer gives the verb as stabant. Shouldn't it be stabamus? Also the full translation is: Nos sub colle stabant. Is it correct that the nos is not necessary, but is used for emphasis (assuming that the verb really is stabamus). If stabant is correct, why is it? #7 says: We stood in the presence of our king. The answer gives the verb as steterunt. Shouldn't it be steterimus? Thank you, Kristine in VA |

Kristine,
You are right. The answer to #6 should be 'stabamus.' And 'nos' is not necessary in this sentence. For #7, the answer is not 'steterunt,' but 'stetimus.' 'We stood' is perfect tense: stem is 'stet,' and ending is 'imus.' 'Steterimus' would be future perfect: we will have stood. A page of corrections is posted on our First Form Yahoo group site. You may want to check that file every now and then to find the mistakes we have located. It would probably save you some frustration. I apologize for the frustration caused by these errors, but I also appreciate your calling our attention to them. We welcome any help we can get from our customers. Regards, Tanya Charlton |
