I am looking at the K and 1st grade online. I would only order K this year, but would prefer to stick with the same curriculum/company and so am looking ahead to what is in the 1st grade package. It appears that there are some duplicates and I am wondering why.

The items I see duplicated are:
Golden Children's Bible
Composition & Sketchbook (I assume this is because you will use one per academic year)
Classical Phonics

I am also a bit confused about the Rod & Staff math items. It appears that there is a part 1 & 2, but how they are divided is a bit confusing. I am not familiar with how R&S is laid out, though I am familiar with the curriculum. It also lists R&S Blacklines twice, which I think are the same set. Please let me know how this will work as I would not need duplicated of non-consumables. The blacklines I would be able to copy for use in my own home.

Thanks!

Michelle,

Thanks for your interest in our primary curriculum. The duplicates you see are those items that we use through 2nd grade (actually, we use the Children's Bible through 5th). If you purchased our kindergarten curriculum, we have a separate package for you that doesn't include the duplicates. The same is true for transitioning from 1st to 2nd grades.

For Rod & Staff math, they don't have a kindergarten program, so we use Part 1 of their 1st grade program in kindergarten, use it again in 1st grade as a review the first 8 weeks of school, and then complete the year with Part 2. So, if you were transitioning from our kindergarten program, you would only purchase the workbooks, not the teacher manual or the blacklines.

Our Bible program for the primary years is tied to our copybooks. The students memorize the copybook passages, and we give you a Bible story to read each week during that Copybook/Memory time.

Classical Phonics is a book of word lists, so we use it as a supplement to our phonics program in kindergarten and continue using it through 2nd grade as the students progress with their reading skills. As you saw, even though the students go into 1st grade reading fluently, we continue to work on phonics skills using SRA Phonics. We think it is important not to drop phonics until the students have gained mastery over it.

I hope this answers all your questions!
