Our family is moving to Geneva Switzerland in about a month and we need to learn French. My children are 1st, 3rd and 5th grade. Is this curriculum appropriate for my youngest? My plan is to use Rosetta Stone alongside your program. Any advice would be welcomed!

Hello.

Our French curriculum is fairly simple and straight-forward, but I don't know how appropriate it would be for a first grader. We recommend that very young students not attempt a foreign language program until they are reading and writing fluently. Of course, each child is different, so if you feel your first grader is ready to tackle another language, that is certainly your call. For your other children, our French program would definitely be age-appropriate.

Melissa in TX,

The glory of Rosetta Stone is that it mimics the benefits of immersion language learning... but... you're going to be getting that for free once you move. So I would hold off on that and learn grammar and vocabulary instead. Then you can save money, and get the immersion when it counts...

First Start French will be the best of both worlds however, you'll get a grammar background, but taught in a conversational/grammatical style that will really keep a foot in both camps, it's a perfect fit for where you are. How far out from being on the ground in Switzerland are you? a year? 6 months?
