Latina Christiana 1 or First Form?

I have a question regarding the choice between LC1 and First Form Latin. This will be our first exposure to Latin outside of church. (We have been doing some Spanish the last two years.) I would like to use this with our homeschool this year. My eldest is 11 and starting 6th grade. She is very bright and an excellent reader/writer. My next daughter is 7 1/2 and will be a 2nd grader. She is reading, but struggling. We are revisiting phonics. I also have a 4 yr old Pre-Ker and a 1 yr old boy.

My desire is to focus on Latin with my eldest while exposing my younger ones to the prayers and some of the vocab.

Would you recommend I start with LC1 and then go onto LC2 or First Form? Or should I just start with First Form from the get go. I do like the look of first form. I am welcome to any suggestions. This has been a tough decision for this mom. Oh, and I have 0 Latin knowledge other than our Mass.

Hello.

With your bright 6th grader, I would begin with First Form. It is a beginning program written for older beginning students. It is very teacher friendly and does not require Latin knowledge to teach successfully. There will be DVDs also, which we are taping now.

I think you are smart to wait a year on the 2nd grader and concentrate on reading. Then, you would begin with Prima Latina, move on to Latina Christiana I, and then move to First Form.

you know what else, if you're careful to do the recitations with all your kids together, then the younger kids will pick up on the grammar, the vocab and the prayers without even knowing what they're doing. I had a class of kids last year, that already knew most of the passive voice verbs forms even before they had begun the study of verbs just because they had heard the highschoolers reciting them for years... so I only had to show them what it is they knew... it was sort of like teaching 8th grade math students that when they "carry the one" they're really adding ten... or a hundred, or a thousand, based on what place they're putting it in... :)
