I am spearheading a Latin program at local Christian private school. I have read reviews of many of the texts offered here as well as from other publishers. I am impressed with what Memoria Press has to offer.

That said, I am seeking some advice on textbooks for a (1) combined 4th-5th grade class that will meet weekly for a year, and (2) a middle school class consisting of 6th-8th graders for the first initial year, which will meet three days a week. All students will have no prior experience with Latin.

I am experienced and proficient in Latin, receiving a M.A. from UMD-CP a few years ago.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Ulysses

Hello.

We have a new Latin program that would actually be suited for both beginning Latin classes. It is called First Form Latin and was written specifically for older beginning students. That said, you may want to consider Latina Christiana I for the 4th-5th graders and then move into First Form their second year. It would be a slower start for them.

LCI teaches 2 noun declensions and 3 verb tenses, whereas First Form teaches all 5 declensions and 6 verb tenses. The advantage to everyone doing First Form is that there is only one teacher prep. involved. But it sounds like with your Latin knowledge, that wouldn't be a big deal.

I'd be glad to speak further with you about this if you want to give me a call or email me with your questions.

Thanks,
