Both my dh and I are non religious but we like to teach our ds about the main religions of the world. We want to give him enough information about them, so that he can make his own mind up as to whether he wants to follow a religion. Would this be a good course to teach our ds about the bible and Christianity?

Sarah,

I think it would probably be excellent for your purposes. Our course is designed to simply teach the Bible. It imposes no doctrinal judgements on what is taught, it just familiarizes the student with what is there. We have done this so that it can be used by people from a wide variety of denominations, but I think the upshot is that it would also be appropriate for a situation like yours.

As the literary critic Northrup Frye has pointed out in his book, The Bible Code, regardless of what you believe in regard to the Bible, you cannot study Western literature properly without being fairly knowledgable of basic Biblical stories and concepts. In other words, the need for Biblical literacy extends far beyond the bounds of those in the Church.

In fact, I noticed that even Richard Dawkins, the famous Oxford atheist, says the same thing.
