HI,
I'm doing Latina Christiana with my 7th and 5th grader. Last year I taught them using the Latin's Not So Tough published by Greek 'n Stuff.

The Latin's not so tough had more translations, and I thought that was good brain-work for the kids, but they didn't explain it enough for me as the teacher, so I've switched to L.C. But I wish LC had more translations and not mostly memory work.

Does LC 2 have more translations? Or does anyone use another book to suppliment the LC so their kids can do more translation work?

Thanks for your help.
Sincerely,
Mary H.

It's hard to provide translation exercises for students in LC because their vocabulary and grammar are so limited. LC II does have more sentences to translate in the exercises and a story in each review lesson. But these are just exercises, not "real" Latin. Fortunately, Memoria Press has 2 supplements to add translation and appreciation of Latin. We've used Lingua Angelica and loved it. The student text has spaces for the student to write the translations of the words of the songs. You'll have to work with them as some of the grammar is beyond their level, but they'll learn a lot. I haven't used Lingua Biblica but it looks interesting. Again, some of the grammar will have to be skipped, but I think students will enjoy finding that they have some understanding of the Latin text because the Bible stories are familiar.
