View Full Version : Christian Studies questions
I'm thinking of using this for our Bible lessons for my 3rd grader next fall. How independent are the lessons? Are they broken down into daily lessons or just a chunk a week or some other way? Do they need any other books besides the student book, Golden Children's Bible? Do I need the TM? Is your 3rd grader using it? Thanks, I think those are all my questions for now.

We are using Christian Studies I this year with my children, 4th and 2nd grade. How independent it is depends on your child's reading ability and writing skills, I think. I usually have them read the lesson's selection independently on one day, the next day we discuss it, the next day they complete the questions in the workbook, the next day we discuss the illustrations in the book and review previous lessons a little. This way it doesn't take much time at all each day, but daily exposure helps retention. It could definitely be done in fewer days per week, though. I like to discuss the questions with the children but that part could be independently completed, too. I have been pleased with the program and we'll do book II next year.
Just to note: I haven't been requiring the children to memorize the verses weekly as we use other things for memorization, but the verses do make good dictation exercises!
Hope that helps!

One more thing...sorry I forgot to mention it. I recommend the TM, for sure. I thought I could get away without it but ended up ordering it a few weeks into the program. Also you don't really need any other books, just the Golden Children's Bible (cheap used copies abound on the internet), and occasionally a regular Bible.
