Question on Ludere II L. 21

Could someone explain this? In both the Word Search and the Grammar Crossword, the clue given is seas, as either nominative or a direct object. The answer given both times is "maria". Shouldn't it be "mara"? Thanks for your help. Lea Ann

Mare is a neuter third declension i-stem. I don't have Ludere or LC II in front of me, but here's a link to a page on third declension nouns with charts:
