Does the Chistian Studies Course teach specific doctrine or is it more of a study guide for parents and children to use together where we can teach our particular religion doctrine? I notice that Memoria Press is switching from the Classic Studies guide to using Famous Men of Rome plus guide, Greek Myths and guide and Christian studies as their curriculum.

I've only just started using Christian Studies 1, but I skimmed through most of the book prior to getting started. I have not seen the other two books, and if there are doctrinal issues, I'd expect them to be in those levels moreso than book 1.

That being said, so far - I don't see anything that looks like more than understanding the Bible text in the Student Guide. Definitions of words, the memory verse, questions about the verse, questions about the passage itelf, and suggestions for activities (mapping and finding details in the pictures).

I don't remember seeing anything specific, but I could see where the Teacher Guide might have some doctrine within the Background and Summary or Big Picture sections. And since the Teacher Guide also includes answers to the comprehension questions, I suppose some doctrine could be in there as well. As a non-denominational Christian, I don't recall seeing anything in there that even jumped out as "doctrine." But, assuming I'm not handing my child the Teacher Guide, if there is anything I disagree with, so far it seems that it would be pretty simple to just steer the child to "my" answer or my point of view in lieu of what is in the guide.

I'd also be interested, Maria, in examples. I'd love to know what I have to look forward to and whether or not there are potential issues for my family.

Thanks for the great question.
The Memoria Press Christian Studies guides are companions to the Golden Children's Bible which was approved by an editorial board consisting of leaders from the Protestant and Catholic faiths. The Memoria Press Christian Studies Guides are likewise appropriate for those of diverse Christian faith backgrounds.

The Christian Studies books are intended to teach grammar age students the fundamental facts and stories related to Salvation History. The Christian Studies books have been used in our Highlands Latin School for several years by Catholic and Protestant students alike. Because the Golden Children's Bible and our Christian Studies courses have been thoughtfully prepared to never undermine a child's faith background, we have yet to hear complaints from our families about the content of either.
