We're only on chapter one of Logic I. My 11 year old asked me whether a mental image might be a sound, such as music. She reasoned that the "image" must be applicable to other senses, otherwise a blind man could never have a simple apprehension because he could never have a mental image if it were limited to the sense of sight. She thought that "music" might apply as the model "man" was applied in the book. You may think of jazz and I may think of Chopin, but we both have the understanding of the essence of music. (or do we?) And we were wondering together if the simple apprehension of a thing could be obtained through only one sense, such as an orange. Can you really understand the essence of an orange by only seeing it? Or by smelling it alone? Thank you for your help!

Yes, the mental image could be formed from another sense than that of sight. We tend to depend on the sense of sight, which is why I used it as as example. Good questions!
