Trying to reach Tanya...
I would like to know if there is any sort of a preliminary outline for the curriculum all the way through 12th grade. If so, where can I see it?
Also, I received the new K guide today with the checkboxes, but would like to know if future guides will be spiral bound. I really dislike the comb bindings.
Last question, for this visit anyway, I see information about the MP conference in June of 2011. How will that be adapated for homeschoolers or will parts of it be geared toward homeschooling? From the advertising, it seems to be directed more at educational institutions.
Thank you,
Michelle <><

Michelle,
Our curriculum outline for each grade comes directly out of our school, Highlands Latin School. The web address is: www.thelatinschool.org. Just click on Academics, and you can get a booklist as well as a description of each area of study. After you've looked at it, I'll be glad to answer any questions you have.
We will eventually either staple or glue the bindings on the curriculum guides. I'm just waiting on our final music/art selections. We have experts in those fields looking at them now to see if we've left anything important out.
Our conference is definitely aimed at the homeschool market. In fact, last year, we were about half homeschoolers and half schools. When we have administrative type stuff going on for school administrators, we also have workshops for homeschoolers at the same time. And, the entire weekend, you have our school faculty as well as Martin Cothran, Cheryl Lowe, and myself available to help you. And our books are on display all weekend too. There would be no time where you wouldn't have something going on that is relevant to your classroom.
I hope you can come! I'd love to meet you.
Cheers,
Tanya

So the curriculum looks fabulous. Now if I can convince my husband to go the conference we will be all set, lol! Are there any activities geared for children?
When I checked the HLS schedule it says K is two days per week, 1st & 2nd are three days and 3rd-12th are four days. Do the instructors cover the same material that is laid out in the guide for five days for K in those two days? How many hours are the kids in school for each grade? Will all of the homeschool guides laid out into five days and is the same material covered in the respective amount of days listed on the HLS site?
I am certain more questions will be forthcoming. This is all for now. Thanks for being so prompt and helpful! :)

Hello.
I'm glad you found the HLS website helpful. Our teachers do cover the same amount of material that is in our curriculum guides. We've just had them spread it over 5 days for homeschooling purposes. It was pretty easy to do because we took homework out of the homeschooling mix and made it daily work.
Our students go to school from 8-3:30. Those are long days for kindergartners, but we do get a lot done!
Our conference is not geared toward children at all. We may grow into this eventually, but right now, it is an adults-only conference.
Regards,
Tanya
