28 Henle Latin study guide An appositive renames its noun like a predicate nominative, but it is not linked to the noun by a linking verb; it is in apposition to it -  positioned directly next to its noun.  An appositive must agree with its noun in number and case--and its noun can be in any case! In English the appositive is set off by commas but in Latin an appositive may precede or follows its noun without commas.  The appositive may be made up of more than one word, such as “Filius Dei”. In such cases the additional words are in a case determined by their own function. o READ: Unit 1, Lesson 3, No. 4, pp. 38-39 o MAKE GRAMMAR CARDS # 23, 24 VOCABULARY: Text, p. 39. o SAY: Vocabulary words aloud three times. o WRITE: Vocabulary words three times. o MAKE: Vocabulary cards. o EXERCISE: Exercise 36, p. 40.
