About Memoria Press

Memoria Press is a family-run publishing company that produces classical Christian education materials for home and private schools. It was founded by Cheryl Lowe in 1994 and has developed a K-12 classical curriculum at Highlands Latin School in Louisville, Kentucky, where its award-winning programs are written and field-tested.

Memoria Press exists to promote and impart the classical heritage of the Christian West. We do this through an emphasis on the liberal arts and the great works of the Western tradition. In order to achieve this goal, we have produced a comprehensive and accessible classical Christian curriculum that encourages the development of wisdom and virtue through a pursuit of the Good, the True, and the Beautiful. Our motto is “Saving Western Civilization One Student at a Time” and expresses our passion for defending and transferring the culture of the Christian West through classical education.

Memoria Press was founded by Cheryl Lowe. Cheryl was the author of the popular Latin programs Latina Christiana, Lingua Angelica, and the Latin Forms Series, as well as The Greek Alphabet, Classical Phonics, First Start Reading, English Grammar Recitation, and other programs. She and her husband, Jim, were married for forty years and have two sons. Cheryl discovered Latin when she homeschooled her sons and was the self-styled apostle of Latin, claiming that Latin has more educational value than any other subject you can teach your children. Cheryl graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in chemistry and from Western Kentucky University with an M.S. in biology. Cheryl had wide teaching experience, in both content and venue, teaching everything from phonics, reading, math, Bible, and chemistry to Shakespeare and Latin, and teaching in public and private schools, as well as homeschooling. Cheryl and her son Brian founded Memoria Press in 1994, and in 2000, the highly successful Highlands Latin School, where the Memoria Press products are taught and field-tested. Cheryl spent many years overseeing the development of the Memoria Press Classical Core Curriculum for home, Christian, and cottage schools, and her memory and example continue to daily inform the mission and vision of Memoria Press. Memoria Press is part of a collection of institutions that promote classical education and the cultural heritage of the Christian West. We regard each of these enterprises as members of our classical education family.

The Memoria Press Family:

Highlands Latin School is a private classical Christian school with two campuses in Louisville, Kentucky, that was founded by Cheryl Lowe. The school’s goal is to provide students with a classical education of the highest quality and to create a private school which is a model of excellence in both academics and Christian character. In partnership with parents, and guided by the Gospel, HLS seeks to educate students to the highest standards of the classical tradition, so that they may grow in knowledge, wisdom, and the love of Our Lord, and more ably use their gifts in the service of others, and for the glory of Christ and his Church.

Highlands Latin Cottage Schools is an organization dedicated to the establishment and growth of classical Christian cottage schools. With Highlands Latin School in Louisville, Kentucky, as its model, the organization provides an outline for the foundation and formation of a flourishing cottage school program. With campuses across the country, homeschooling students meet one or two days a week for a teacher-led, traditional classroom experience. All instruction is provided in the classroom, with students completing lessons and homework during the rest of the week in their homes with the support of their parents. The goal of this program is to support homeschooling families in educating their students to the highest standards of the classical tradition, while aiding the students’ growth in knowledge, wisdom, and the love of Christ, that they would be better suited to use their gifts in service of others.

Memoria Academy is an extension of Memoria Press and Highlands Latin School. It has provided high-quality instruction in Latin, logic, classical studies, and literature, as well as history and mathematics since 2006. In partnership with parents, it seeks to educate students to the highest standards of the classical tradition, so that they may grow in knowledge and wisdom. Its success is directly related to its teachers, many of whom are instructors at Highlands Latin School in Louisville, Kentucky. Along with the instructors, the solid, classical curriculum will guarantee that students receive breadth and depth in their studies. With flexible scheduling and live audio/video format, there are courses for just about anyone in grades 3-12. If you have questions, please send an email to office@memoriaacademy.com or call 502-855-4838.

The Classical Latin School Association (CLSA) is an association of elementary and secondary schools working to promote the transmission of the culture of the Christian West through the Classical Core Curriculum. The Classical Core Curriculum was developed at Highlands Latin School in Louisville, Kentucky. After teaching the mastery of basic skills and classic children’s literature in the primary grades, the curriculum has a dual focus on the intellectual skills of the liberal arts and the cultural content of the great books in grades 3-12.
